CARBON BLACK - BONE / IVORY BLACK - GRAPHITE

Description

CARBON BLACK

Carbon black is obtained through the incomplete burning (lack of oxygen) of hydrocarbons.

Various production methods yield various kinds of carbon black with a different size particle.

BONE / IVORY BLACK CI PBk 9 - 77267

Bone/ivory black is obtained through the incomplete burning of bone/ivory (10-20% carbon).

There are various names for the varying qualities of bone black; ivory black e.g. has a superior quality.

GRAPHITE CI PBk 10 - 77265

Graphite has 3 varieties:

Natural micro crystalline graphite (black graphite) with a carbon content of between 40-85%.

Natural macro crystalline graphite (silver graphite) with a carbon content of between 60-99%.

Synthetic electrode graphite with a carbon content of >98%.

Characteristics

CARBON BLACK

Carbon black is UV- and weather-resistant and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

The pigment is stable in acid as well as in alkaline environments. The temperature resistance is only 250°C.

The shade of carbon black is deep black and the brilliance and coverage are very high.

Carbon black is often used as a filler in rubbers and most of the reproduced varieties cannot be used in water-borne systems, unless this carbon black has been treated with additives.

BONE/IVORY BLACK

Bone black is UV-, acid- and alkali-resistant and has a brown black shade and low colouring power

Ivory black is a darker tone than bone black.

GRAPHITE

Graphite is UV-, acid- and alkali- resistant and has a grey-black tone and has good colouring power.

Graphite has high a temperature resistance to 1000°C.

Range

CARBON BLACK

Stoopen and Meeûs stocks several carbon black pigments and a black pigment, which is a blend of carbon black and iron oxide black; they all contain additives that make the pigment suitable for use in water-borne systems like cement and lime products.
