SYNTHETIC IRON OXIDES

Description

Synthetic iron oxides are the synthetic variety of the natural pigments. These iron oxides contain 99% iron oxide and therefore have a considerably better colouring power than the natural oxides. Because these pure oxides contain no pollutants like MnO, SiO2, Al2O3, and so on, the colours have more brilliance than natural pigments.

These synthetic iron oxides are obtained by oxidising iron (scrap metal) to (hydrated) iron oxide.

Iron oxides consist of various tones of yellow, red and black. By mixing these colours, brown tones are obtained

Iron oxide yellow (Fe2O3.3H2O) : CI PY 42 - 77492

Iron oxide red (Fe2O3) : CI PR 101 - 77491

Iron oxide black (Fe2O3.FeO): CI PBk 11 - 77499

Characteristics

Because of their excellent UV- and weather resistance, synthetic oxides, like the natural pigments, can be used under practically all circumstances in- and outdoors.

Because of their alkali-resistance and good colouring power these pigments are most suitable for lime- and cement products.

Iron oxides are acid-resistant and they can be used in combination with many chemicals.

Because these iron oxides provide good coverage, they are widely used in paint products.

The temperature resistance of natural oxides differs in the various colours: yellow, black and brown are resistant to 177°C, red has a much higher resistance and can be used in the production of ceramics.

Iron oxides are good UV absorbers and they can protect polymers in plastic and paint against disintegration by UV radiation.

Natural oxides are non-toxic.

Range

Stoopen & Meeûs has a range of yellow, red, brown and black iron oxides in various tones.

Synthetic iron oxides are also the bases of an extensive range of mixes; iron oxides can be mixed with all other pigments. At the request of the client, Stoopen & Meeûs will prepare a mix according to a sample (from 1000 kg). The range of pigments that are obtained this way, has almost unlimited possibilities.

Synthetic iron oxides, with natural oxides are the best pigment price-quality for many uses.
